Moms In Training

If you are a busy mom looking for a reason to run, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Western PA and West Virginia has a program for you. The Moms in Training program is designed to give moms the training they need, the opportunity to meet new moms in a social environment, and to support their fundraising efforts that benefits lifesaving patient services programs and cancer research.

This is a modified version of the highly successful LLS ‘Team in Training’ program, designed specifically for moms. Currently, the LLS of Western PA and West Virginia is recruiting moms who want to train to run or walk a 5k (or further), meet other moms, and raise money for this cause. Moms in Training will meet on Saturday mornings during the summer at Pittsburgh parks (such as Schenley Park) for 75-90 minutes.

We are so excited to announce that the 5K Moms In Training will be participating in is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pineapple Classic 5K. This is a fun and challenging Hawaiian-themed obstacle 5K and luau with food, prizes and entertainment for the whole family. Moms will run in teams of two, three or four. Whether you choose to walk or run the course, there will be a special Dads and Kids viewing section so they can cheer you on along the way! Each TEAM must carry a pineapple throughout the course and make it over the finish line. Pineapple Classic 5K will take place on September 20, 2014 at Hartwood Acres. Training will take place for the 8 weeks prior to race day!

The commitment: Raise $500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Western PA and West Virginia by the day of your event. You don’t have to do this alone! The Moms In Training staff are here for you every step of the way! We have lots of fundraising ideas and ways for your family and friends to get involved!

What you get in return: Training Schedule (run with the other Moms in Training on Saturdays, with a fun and manageable plan), Coaching (from a certified and encouraging coach), Workshops on topics like nutrition and stretching, Socializing (Moms have to have fun, too!), and a Team Environment (training is easier with a friend!)

The Moms in Training team knows it’s not easy to work out with kids. If your child can remain in the stroller, they’re welcome to join you. If your kids are older and can run along with you, they can come along. And dads? You’re welcome, too.

Make Your Someday, TODAY. If we work together, we can find a cure for cancer!
